Hell or High Water (2019-2025)

Hell or High Water is a series of oil on sackcloth paintings begun in 2019 which reflects on the upheaval caused by the climate crisis as well as depicting coloniality in both Northern Ireland and the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe. The first series of Hell or High Water paintings on recycled coffee bean sackcloth were completed for my degree show at Belfast School of Art. This exhibition ran from 7th June - 14th June 2019.

The first paintings of this series (2019-2021) were based on Caribbean motifs as well as motifs in the north of Ireland. Paintings from Hell or high water I were also exhibited at Stendhal Festival and ArtisAnn Gallery, Belfast in 2019, at QSS Gallery in 2020 and at Catalyst Arts in 2024. The next parts of the extended series were exhibited in solo shows. Hell or high water II ran at the Market Place Theatre Gallery, Armagh from 24th July - 2nd September 2023 and Hell or High Water III was exhibited at Atypical Gallery, Belfast from 14th January - 21st February 2025.
